16 Views of our Mountains Cosponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation, Diamond Brand Outdoors and FAHA with materials supplied by NASCO, this indoor mural painting workshop produced sixteen, one-foot canvases. Local artist and co-author of Art by Choice, Eugene Avergon supervised the work of twelve amateur artists, each of whom chose a different regional theme and made an acrylic painting . At the end of four weekend sessions, the canvases were ready to be finished, assembled and mounted for public display. Presently on exhibit in Diamond Brand Outdoors, the mural can be relocated and was featured in the 2007 issue of Fletcher Magazine.
The Four Choirs concert There were four churches in Fletcher in the middle of the nineteenth century: Calvary Episcopal, Fletcher First Baptist, Fletcher United Methodist and St. John Baptist. The first three were in existence before the Civil War. St. John Baptist was established after the Civil War when former slaves abandoned their memberships with Fletcher First Baptist to form their own congregation. These four congregations are still thriving in Fletcher. Sponsored and coordinated by FAHA, in their first collaborative effort, each of the historic church choirs gathered in the new sanctuary of Fletcher First Baptist Church on September 23, 2005 to join heart, soul and voice in a public concert celebrating their distinct cultures. All sang as individual choirs and joined together in a grand finale. CDs of the concert are available through the organization for a nominal donation. Please contact us if you would like a recording of this momentous event or more information on the next historic performance.
